General Information.
MediLab L.I.M.S.(Laboratory and Information Management System) is an integrated laboratory information system, well established in the medical market, with many hundreds of installations.
It is available in three different versions, each one adapted to the needs and particularities of each laboratory:
- Private Diagnostic Laboratories
- Diagnostic Centers
- Entire Laboratory Section of a hospital
The software is structured to support many users, with different authorities and access privilages on relevant data. It is full parametric allowing division of the whole laboratory section into departments. Provides capabilities for stuff definition and authorization specification based on roles, tests definition and responcible laboratory personell for each one for ordering, execution, result modification, approval and final release actions.
It manages the medical laboratory record of all patients’ tests, observing the tests per patient, laboratory department, ward, wing, doctor, insurance agency, instrument and it is capable to produce invoices and manage all the relevant financial data.
The total LIMS system is concisted of a per lab department specialised software, installed on a computer network, which extends to all laboratory depertments and wards also. The analysers used are connected through special device drivers, so that all terminals and instruments constitute a uniform system.
The system manages all tests of all laboratory departments, no matter if they are measured by the connected analytical instruments or they are determined through classical determination methods using simple devices (photometers, microscopes etc) or finally they are determined through classical chemical methods.
The daily tests are ordered and entered into the system either by each ward, by central laboratory reception, by specimen receipt department or by multiple receptions points, if exist, in each laboratory department.
Important is that the system helps to set aside the multiple specimen receipt points, as well as to suppress multiple blood collection from the same patient during the same day, to meet the needs of each laboratory department. This contribution is finally translated into:
- a reduction of the equipment required, as well as of
their maintenance cost
- a reduction of the consumables
- a reduction of the staff needed and a gain in working
time, which can be dedicated to more productive activities
Depending on system extension, workstations are installed into wards, either during the initial installation or in a second phase. On ward terminals, the attendant physicians can view the laboratory results of their patients. In addition, the current results are available to the ward terminal immediately after the completion of the laboratory procedures and the final approval by the directors of each laboratory department, in real time, without any delay or without calling personell to the laboratory area, in order to receive printed tests results. The patients are not gathered any more in the laboratories, waiting for the results, and the personell reduces non productive time spent. The total improvement is visible and clear.
This procedure reduces or cuts off paper need. Printed test results forms and other forms used for internal usage are no more needed. In addition, sets aside the daily tests hand written books and their daily update, and it also helps to release room space from files archive, because of the electronically kept medical record.
Data management becomes more solid and the error possibility is kept into a minimum. Total time needed to complete a test examination is cut almost to half. Repetition of tests is reduced significantly thanks to the incorporated quality control system, delta check control and other facilities. Consequently the production cost is reduced and the results reliability is improved. So the advantages of the system are obvious.
The special software design and the experience of our company, allows to the system to be set up very easily and in short terms, even if users are not at all experienced. Our company has already trained more than 2000 doctors and laboratory staff.
