Barcoding in health
domain is an excellent tool, which allows continuous specimen identification in a unique and reliable way. The observation of the specimen and its identification during all the functional phases, is realized
without error possibility. The application consists of multiple modules, which cover all the needs of a laboratory .
There are two different typical uses of barcodes.
Specimen identification Different modules of the software are responsible for:

a. Barcode labels production, using barcode printers, during the phase of entrance of the ordered tests.
b. Barcode labels production in A4 size labels paper, using
normal laser printers for all the specimens received. This printing usually
happens at specimen receiving department.
c. Specimen identification at any time with concurrent
appearance of patient’s data it belongs to, through a barcode reader on any
terminal of the system.
d. Specimen identification all time long it is loaded on the
diagnostic system, permitting to instrumentation software to fulfil the analyser
inquires about specimen tests and procedure. This avoids the classic analyser
programing by typing-in the required tests of each specimen .
This methodology
alllows the selection and introduction of predefined items to the system, without typing them. The selection and introduction of these items is realised using a pen barcode reader, on a preprinted sheet containg barcodes, which includes all the possible choices for the introduction of a single item. Typical usage example is ordering of tests. |
